Antiques, Chesapeake Bay, Date Night, Possums and Lice

We started the day all together at an antique shop on Kent Island. Susanna got a free snow globe, Amanda got a cute travel case to store her cross stitching supplies in, Megan bought some cool sea glass, Laney got a pretty glass dish to hold her rings in and Dad got a cheese slicer for Mom.

Rich took the kids to Terrapin Nature Park Beach while Amanda and I went looking for more antique shops. We found a couple of secondhand stores, that were not that exciting, but all the antique shops were closed during the week. We still had fun looking around the island and talking. Then we went looking for Rich and the kids. There was a nice little stroll through the nature park to get to the beach. The waters of the Chesapeake Bay are pretty calm, hardly any waves, at this beach. Laney loves it that way, but some of the other kids were hoping for more waves. It also was shallow pretty far out from the shore, which was great for the kids.  Amanda and I walked up and down the beach talking and looking for beach glass and pretty rocks. Rich played in the water with the kids. It was overcast and sprinkled a bit. Really, the weather was perfect, not to hot and no baking sun. We had a great time!

The bridge in the background is huge. We timed it and it took us 5 minutes to cross it at about 45 miles per hour. The Chesapeake Bay is gigantic!

The kids found a half eaten fish floating around. Daniel was brave enough to pick it up and bring it ashore.

All the kids thought it was grossly awesome.

There were tons of crab shells. And at one point, Rich was out in the water and felt a root or something sticking out of the sand under water. He decided to pull it up and see what it was. He said he really pulled to get it out and when he did, he was surprised to see that it was a big, live, horseshoe crab. He was kind of freaked out to have pulled up a dinosaur looking creature and quickly tossed it back in the water.

Amanda sweetly took all the kids home so Rich and I could have a date night. We really wanted to try some Maryland seafood! 

Susanna fell asleep on the way back. All this fun can wipe a girl out!

Rich and I, after reading lots of reviews and getting advice from Amanda's friends, decided on The Crab Deck. We chose to eat out on the dock. It rained a bit throughout our dinner, but we stayed dry under the table umbrella. It was lots of fun!

This is what we ordered:

Rich ordered the Seafood Bordelaise - gulf shrimp, sea scallops, jumbo lump crab meat sauteed in sherry, capers and mushroom butter sauce

I ordered the Broiled Platter - crab cake, scallops, gulf shrimp & flounder fillet with sweet cream butter.

And we both got coleslaw and green beans as our side dishes. It was all AMAZING!!!

The crab cake was heavenly!!!

After dinner, we walked around the pier and enjoyed the view of the water.

While we were out, Amanda took the kids to mutual with her. They were thrilled to make friends with one of the young women leader's possums.

They had been rescued as babies and raise with this family. They were very friendly pets and so cute in their clothes.

As we were unwinding from all the fun, we realized that Sabrina had lice. Ugg... I HATE LICE!  We checked and combed through everyone's hair. Fortunately, none of my kids had any, but it still makes your head itch and your skin crawl just thinking about it.

The kids were exhausted after such a long, fun day!

Dad was worn out as well and fell asleep in the middle of the floor.
